In addition to the paintings, prints and drawings he collected, selections from which are regularly displayed in the Coalbrookdale Gallery, Sir Arthur Elton also amassed a collection of some 5,000 books and pamphlets covering the Industrial Revolution and associated subjects.

His book collection contains most of the standard works on industry and technology from the 18th and 19th centuries, and is particularly strong on early railways, canals, industrial archaeology and the Great Exhibition of 1851. It also contains a very fine collection of industrial biographies.
